The Old
Barn Resort Outside the barn, the surrounding peaks and valleys offer sights and activities the entire family can enjoy. The scenic bluffs are home to an abundance of whitetail deer, wild turkey and many other types of wildlife. The majestic show of autumn colors along these bluffs is not to be missed. The valleys of the Root River attract anglers for excellent trout and bass fishing. There is over a mile of designated trout stream (South Branch of Root River)running through the property that is home to stocked and native trout. In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, our county (Fillmore) doesn't have one of them. However, this gorgeous county does seem to have an unusually high number of very good trout streams. Fly-fishing is the preferred method of fishing, but rod and reel have known to work just as well. If you are interested in other species of fish, we have them too - just not on-site. For bass and panfish you'll have to travel about 10 minutes to get to the North Branch of the Root River. For walleye, northern and panfish you'll want to go in a different direction. Just south of the dam in Lanesboro (about 10 minutes, also) you'll find those types of species. The South and North Branches of the Root River join in Lanesboro just after the dam and then continue on the Mississippi eventually at LaCrescent, MN.
Beware parents, if you are with your child under 16, you are required to
have a license with a trout stamp if fishing in a designated trout
stream. Please take the time and go to the link below about trout
guidelines and info right from the Minnesota DNR. Do your homework
first and enjoy all of your vacation knowing the rules and regulations.
Canoes or inner tubes
are available for rent on-site . Reservations for rentals are
required on weekdays and recommended on weekends and holidays. Click here for Minnesota DNR Trout Guidelines and Info
